The Yfke print is based on an original hand-painted, European block print from the 19th Century that was used to create wall paper. Wall paper started to become popular in the middle of the 18th Century and used to be made from textile waste, also known as rag paper. After applying a base colour, the sheets are printed using wooden blocks with a pattern. Each colour scheme requires a specific block print. When you look close enough at this opulent flower print, you’ll see a diamond pattern shining through. This shows that this pattern was used to place this print repeatedly.
